Orlando Fringe Festival

Published May 13, 2014 by suejansons

Since Orlando is a tourist town, I thought I would start including happenings in and around Orlando. I plan to cover a wide variety of events so there will be something for everyone.  I hope you enjoy reading about it and if you ever visit, are able to join in on the fun!

The 23rd Annual Orlando Fringe Theatre Festival takes place May 14th-27th in Orlando’s Loch Haven Park.

The Orlando Fringe Festival lasts 14 days. It is a Festival of arts in many forms, including comedy, music, dance, to name a few, that is not censored or judged in any way. 100% of the ticket sales go directly to the artists.

The Orlando Fringe wants to provide an outlet for the community to be able to have creative experiences that are affordable and accessible.

Fringe is a celebration of the theatrical and performing arts. The Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival takes place in and around Loch Haven Park over 14 days.  The Orlando Fringe Festival encompasses roughly 500 uncensored and non-juried performances each year, an outdoor stage and infamous BEER TENT, Visual Fringe and Kids Fringe!

Here are the specifics straight from The Fringe!

The Orlando Fringe is the longest running Fringe Festival in the United States, celebrating 23 years as “Orlando’s most unique cultural experience”.  Orlando Fringe is a proud member of the United States Association of Fringe Festivals (USAFF) www.fringefestivals.us and the Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals (CAFF) www.fringefestivals.com.

A Fringe button is required to enter any Fringe show within any venue for anyone 13 years and older.  A Fringe button is not required for children 12 and under.  The button costs $9 (cash only) and is a one-time purchase. Button proceeds go directly to support the Fringe.  Fringe buttons cannot be purchased online.  Buttons can be purchased at any of the Fringe Box Offices and various Fringe Merchandise Booths located throughout the Festival.

Individual Show Tickets

Each performing group determines their own ticket price. The tickets range from Free – $11. There is a $1.25 ticket surcharge for each ticket purchased online and a $1 ticket surcharge for each ticket purchased at the Fringe Box Office regardless of payment type. 100% of Box Office sales go directly to the artists in the show you purchase tickets for.

Kids Fringe is a special part of the Orlando Fringe Festival just for kids and families! Located, for the third year in a row, in the beautiful sculpture gardens of the Mennello Museum of American Art, Kids Fringe offers performances by Fringe artists, classes, art activities and more! Kids Fringe is FREE to all participants and runs 10-4 both weekends of the festival.

Visual Fringe

Visual Fringe is the portion of the Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival that consists of visual art. Like the theater portion of the festival, Visual Fringe is uncensored and un-juried and 100% of the money made in art sales is given back to the artists. The main focus of the Visual Fringe is to allow an outlet for artists to push beyond their usual medium, subject matter and comfort zone to bring true uniqueness to this exhibition and foster the celebration of creativity.

With the great success of the VF Market of 2013, this year will be another amazing one for Visual Fringe as we are working with Orlando Museum of Art to hold our Visual Fringe Market, 4-8 pm Saturday and Sunday of both weekends.
